Foley Selected as Host for New USA Pickleball Tournament Series
Foley, Alabama, has been chosen as one of just five cities in the U.S. to host a new tournament in the USA Pickleball Select Series. The Gulf Coast event will be held at the Foley Event Center from August 23 to 25.
Pickleball, recognized as America’s fastest-growing sport for the past three years, has seen its popularity skyrocket, with big names like Tom Brady and LeBron James investing in the sport’s professional teams. Its appeal is quickly spreading across the country.
Lance Cowart, Managing Director of National Championships at USA Pickleball, emphasized the importance of making top-tier competitions more accessible. The Select Series was established to provide sanctioned events in various regions, allowing players from all over the country to participate.
Foley was selected for this prestigious event due to its proven track record of successfully hosting pickleball tournaments. The city has emerged as a significant hub for the sport in the region, previously hosting the USA Pickleball Atlantic South Regional in 2021.
David Thompson, Foley’s Executive Director of Leisure Services, highlighted the city’s dedication to creating a welcoming atmosphere for all athletes. He noted that the Foley Event Center, which opened in 2017, was specifically designed to accommodate pickleball, making it an ideal venue for tournaments.
Thompson also praised the local community’s hospitality, citing Foley’s unique environment and commitment to visitors as key reasons why it is a top sports destination. He expressed enthusiasm about hosting the Select Series event and continuing to strengthen the city’s relationship with USA Pickleball.
